3rd Gen iPod Touch VS 4th Gen iPod Touch

This is a continuation of the previous blog on the "previous gen VS current gen" war. For this post, I'll be comparing the 3rd Gen & 4th Gen iPod touch.

Just in case you are interested in purchasing the 3rd Gen iPod, the 64GB is only @ $499 (UP: $548), available only at Song Brothers Marketing, #01-59 Sim Lim Square.

Okay, let's start the "war".

First, let's compare the sizes of the two:

4th Gen (thereafter refer to as 4G) iPod Touch is thinner & "skinnier" than the 3rd Gen (3G) iPod Touch. The length of the 4G remain unchained from the 3G but the width is smaller and the thickness is reduced as compared to the 3G iPod Touch. With the decrease in Size, you can expect the decrease in weight too.

My POV on the battle of the size:

Does SIZE really matter? If you are stylish cool looking dude, then Yes it does. The "thinner & skinnier" look of the 4G does make it look more trendy & cool then the previous 3G model. But, the flipside is, (my own opinion again) I feel less secure when holding it in my hands. I just feel that I'll break it into 2 because it's so "thin".

Still on the outlook of the 2 models, let's compare the LCD Display:

The size of the LCD display remained the same from 3G to 4G (for bigger screen, just get the iPad.). FYI, it's 3.5" multi-touch wide-screen display. With the same inch-size, the 4G has the "Retina Display" with LED Backlight & an ambient light sensor that automatically adjusts the brightness of the screen for best view and battery life possible. In layman's terms, 4G iPod Touch has a much better LCD display than the 3G.

My POV:
I must say that the screen of the 4G iPod Touch is "wow". I'm actually pretty contented with the 3G's screen, but, the 4G's screen is really clear! Of course, without comparsion, the 3G's screen is not too bad. But beside the 4G, it's kinda pale in comparison. The 4G is good for watching hours of videos! ( HK dramas, here I come!) But like I said before, on it's own, 3G screen is good too.

Now comparing the Battery Life:

The battery life (as claimed by Apple) of the 4G is 10 hours more, in terms of Audio, & 1 hour more, in terms of video, than the 3G.

My POV:
Though battery life is important, but I feel, there's no real winner between the 2 in terms of battery life. Since, it's not really much of a difference.

Features:
Good news if you are a photo/video capture lover! 'Cause the 4G iPod Touch comes with 2 cameras! One in front (for video chatting purposes) & one rear one for you to take HD videos! I must highlight to you that this camera is more of a Video Camera rather than Still Camera. It takes photos at VGA quality... well you get the idea.

Did I mentioned video chatting? Yes, 4G has "FaceTime" which enables you to do video conferencing with 4G iPod Touch users n iPhone 4 users. Of course, Wifi must be enabled to do video conferencing :)

My POV:
The winner in features is 4G iPod Touch! I guess I don't have to say much since there's no Camera at all in the 3G iPod Touch.

My POV Overall:
I know you might think that I'm giving you a politically corrected ans, but I still have to say: "it's worth to buy a 4G iPod Touch, if you use the additional functions." If not, given the price difference, stick with 3G iPod Touch.
