Weekly Contest

Dear Fans,

Apologise for the long awaited post.

Let me tell you about the happenings of our Facebook Weekly Prize Contest.

Week 1

We have finally come to a decision to select the winner for Week 1. It was a tough decision as most of the comments was equally good, however we have to pick a winner. So we choose TWO winners instead of 1 for the Beyer DTX 501P contest because we believe both deserve to win.

The first prize winner is Chua Man Chin with a total of 317 likes with his sweet and short statement about Beyer & why he deserve to win it " i love it cuz its portable n solid, the headphones fit my style!"

And the second prize winner goes to Tay Yu Han with his love for Beyer "The
reason why I love beyer headphones is due to the natural balanced sound that
it has, after my friend has let me try them! Really impressed by the sound that it has, the current IEMs i use are the TF10s, which has a V-shaped sound
signature, and I was impressed by the balanced sound that the DTX 501p
produced. The reason on why I think i deserve to win it is because I intend to
use it is to use it for stage monitoring, which I feel that it would help as the
mids (mainly vocals) would not be recessed(which is what im experiencing
now), and thus helping me to keep more in time with the lead singers!"
Total of 241 likes!

Congratulations to both prize winner and for that we truly believe you both deserve Beyer headphones!

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX7

Introducing the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX7!

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX7  is the long-awaited replacement to the very popular DMC-LX5. The LX5 (and its predecessors) was well known for its low light ability, and Panasonic has improved on that in two ways. First, there's the LX7's lens: with a maximum aperture range of F1.4 - F2.3, it lets in way more light than what you'd find on a compact camera. The fast aperture range also allows for better background blurring than what you'll find on nearly every fixed-lens camera on the market. In addition, the LX7's sensor and image processor have both been improved, allowing for less noise at high sensitivities.
Other new features on the LX7 include a manual aperture ring, higher resolution LCD display, neutral density filter, 11 fps continuous shooting, HDR capability, and the ability to record movies at 1080/60p (with stereo sound).

Ultrabook - Dell™ XPS 13

Dear readers,

Today seems like a perfect time to review about one of the most popular computer among consumer for the next couple of years: Ultrabook Intel.

Some might wonder what is an Ultrabook.  It is a higher-end type of sub notebook defined by Intel. Ultrabooks are designed to be slimmed (less than 2.1 cm thick) and weighs usually less than 1.5 kg without compromising performance and battery life. They uses low power Intel processors with highly integrated graphics and unibody chassis to fit larger batteries into smaller cases.

Ultrabooks are an interesting phenomenon. It's like the industry took a long route to design this sleek and smart gadgets and introduce it to the market in order to serve consumers better.  Thank God for this. We're big fans of the sleek and light weighted notebooks even though netbook price are being appreciated all the times  however, reminding ourselves time and again, as performance enthusiasts, netbooks do not serve us well as compared to notebook. To be honest; no matter how small they are, how inexpensive or how miserly they are on power consumption, it's advise to see the ultrabook market take flight with virtually all of the major players behind the vision Intel help inspired.

The long awaited Dell™ XPS 13 is here! Dell does a good job of balancing between features, performance and cost. It has all in 1 that you need. Dell definitely invested quite a bit in the appearance, however, as Dell's 13-inch (it looks like 11-inch) weighing approximately at 1.36kg, edge-to-edge Gorilla Glass strapped LCD is one of the nicer panels out there in this form of machine. Truly the ideal choice for the on the go consumers.
Other tangible parts between build quality and cost are the XPS 13's covered with  aluminum body, carbon fiber cool touch base and magnesium alloy construction that  gives the little fella a solid well-built and polished feel.

 Specifications
Intel Core i5-2467M Processor (1.6GHz)
Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit)
4GB DDR3 SDRAM
128GB Solid State Drive
13.3" HD WLED Display
Intel HD 3000 graphics1 Yr XPS Premier Service
Approximately weighing at 1.36kg

And the comparison to MacBook Air is a cliche one, as this is the most Air-like ultrabook to date. If not for the circular Dell logo replacing the circular Apple logo on the back, it will be tricky to tell the difference with the lid closed.
The bottom surface is distinctive with two raised channels allowing heat to escape from the bottom vent, but raising the entire system by a few millimeters. It is not as smooth as a Mac Book air though.
The keyboard is shallow but very pleasant to use, with a soft, clack-free touch. The backlight is bright, but not overpowering against the all-black keys and keyboard tray. Something must be said for the all-over use of matte black as well. The glass touch pad is large, with a drag-free matte surface.
Plus and interesting point, you no longer have to wait for a long booting up. XPS 13 uses solid state drive that enhance its attributes to its function. It takes less than 10 secs to boot up and less than 1 sec to resume while on sleep or standby mode.
One thing that gives me pause is the lack of an SD card slot, a large SD card is an easy and inexpensive way to temporarily boost the capacity of a laptop with SSD storage. You may also be bothered by the choice of Display Port instead of HDMI for the video output, which just isn't as universally useful. Sure, an adapter can connect the two, but even in corporate settings, you're more likely to run into HDMI (or even VGA) than Display Port for now, at least.
To feel and judge the sleek notebook, come down to Song Brothers (Sim Lim Square) to clear your doubts! Great things awaiting you~

Panasonic GX1

OK, this post comes a little late but, better late than ever! :)

I am really excited about the Panasonic DMC GX1!

Ok, finally, Panasonic has come up with a camera worth waiting for - DMC GX1. The GX1 is definitely better than both the GF2 & the GF3. It is perhaps, the replacement model for GF2 since it has almost the same size as the GF2.

Anyways, GX1 is a 16 Mega Pixel camera (GF2 being 12MP)  with ISO up to 12,800 (GF2: ISO 6400) with MFT sensor. It also has a Touch-Screen 3" TFT Display that allows you to do the "easy background DeFocus" & also the "Cool & Warm Colour selection".

If you are into taking videos, the GX1 lets you take Full HD videos at 30FPS & allows you to easily control your subject focus by touch on the screen. You can nw seamlessly take videos on the GX1!

Adding on, GX1 has a better grip compared to both GF2 & the GF3. You might have notice, a bigger hand grip is attached to the GX1, making it better to grasp for bigger hands like mine! Perhaps it is due to the bigger size ofGX1, I personally feel that holding a GX1 is better than holding the GF2 or the GF3.

Lastly, the GX1 is avaible in dual lens & "X" (14-42mm) lens kit. If you have not hear about the X lens, well, here is brief write up about the X Lens:

14-42 X lens is a power zoom lens - it is the size of a 20mm pancake lens but is able to zoom and be extended out. It has a nano surface coating which helps to reduce ghostings & flares. It also comes with a improved version of the Optical Image Stabliser (Mega O.I.S).

Last but not least, the GX1 is available in silver and black in power zoom lens kit & dual lens kit both price at RCP SGD 1299.

Review on Acer S3

Hi guys!

Yes! I'm the 'colleague' mentioned in the previous post. I am glad to be part of the review team!

The long awaited Acer S3 is finally available in town! I've been waiting impatiently for the arrival of S3. This impressive ultra slim, light and powerful notebook is drawing lots of attention! At first glance, it looks pretty similar to the MacBook Air. However it certainly has its own differentiating factors.

Appearance wide, it has a very elegant design with aluminium lid that doesn't seem to pick up fingerprints. Its rounded edges makes user experience more comfortable and further enhances its design. Two thumbs up for its dedicated design!

Let us take a quick look at Acer S3 specifications:

Specifications:
Intel Core i3-2367M processor or i5-2467M processor
Intel HDGraphics 3000
13.3 HD Acer CineCrystal LED-backlit TFTLCD
4GB RAM, 320GB HDD or 240GB SSD
Approx 1.35kg

Acer S3 is indeed one of the world’s first slimmest and lightest 13.3” notebook with powerful performance. Weighing at approx 1.35kg with thickness of only 13mm, it is the ideal choice for on-the-go consumers who are looking for an ultra portable notebook.

Another amazing feature of S3 is remarkably fast boot up speed. It is stated to be able to resume from normal sleep mode in 1.5 secs and deep sleep mode in 6 secs. Technically, it can hold its charge for up to 50 days in sleep mode.

The IT geeks may also opt for S3 with SSD drive at a slightly higher price. Another pleasant surprise is that S3 comes with a very spacious trackpad – a good move away from the traditional small trackpad.

Performance wise, I am able to run multiple applications smoothly on S3. High definition videos look pretty decent on the 13.3” display. I've no complaints about it.

Enough said, but what I didn't quite like about S3 is that some of the major keys i.e. Caps lock, Arrow Keys and Enter, are shrunk. A little less crowded keyboard would definitely be more appreciated. Also, an Ethernet port will be useful although not necessary.

So what's my verdict? Is the Acer S3 better than MacBook Air? You decide for yourself! Come down to Song Brothers (Sim Lim Square) to check out the S3 now!
