A good deal not to be missed

For Apple iPod fans, who loved the previous generations of iPod. This is a piece of good news.

Song Brothers Marketing has decided to run a special promotion on the previous generation of iPods.

Before I start comparing the differences between the last generation iPods and the new ones that were launched on 1st Sept 2010, let me give you the promotions details, bear in mind, it's while stocks last.

The iPod Nano (5th Generation):
8GB @ $199 (UP: $228)
16GB @ $249 (UP: $278)

The iPod Classic (Current generation)
160GB @ $338 (UP: $388)

The iPod Touch (3rd Generation)
64GB @ $499 (UP: $548)

Before I start the comparisons, please do bear in mind  that all the comparisons done are with NO intentions of condemning any generations of the iPods, but rather as a piece of info that may/may not be helpful in helping you decide which iPod suits you best.

Let me start by comparing the iPod Nano : 5th Generation VS 6th Generation

If you still remember, 5th Generation iPod Nano has a sleek and thin (or tall) design. It has a 2.2 inch TFT screen that allows you to view photos & videos. It has built-in FM Radio, Video Camera & Voice Recorder. The FM Radio allows you to do "live pausing" for up to 15mins, which means if you need to go to the bathrm and you don't want to miss your fav. songs, you can pause the FM radio and rewind up to 15mins. The Video Camera is a VGA camera that allows you to take videos with audio. Though it has a VGA camera, it does NOT allow you to take photos. Next, the 5th Gen iPod nano has voice recording function that can be useful if you want to do some recording of a lecture. :) If you exercise regularly, the 5th Gen iPod has a pedrometer that tracks steps & calories burnt. Other features includes games, alarm clock function, etc etc.'

The 6th Generation iPod Nano has a brand new different look. No offence to Apple, but I do think the new Nano looks more like an iPod Shuffle. It has a 1.54 inch TFT color screen with multi-touch function. It still has some functions of the 5th Gen iPod like the FM radio with "live pausing", pedrometer, Genius Playlist but loses important functions like the video recording, video playback which means, the 6th Gen iPod is good only as a music player. However, the 6th Gen iPod Nano scores points in it being small and "clip-able" so if you are using it during morning jogs, you don't have to be worried about its size or where you should put it because it can conveniently be clipped on your shirt. Just one more fact extra that you might want to know about the 6th Gen iPod Nano - it will be transformed to a voice recorder if you plug in Apple's earphones with Mic.

My POV on 5th Gen iPod Nano VS 6th Gen iPod Nano:

Looking at just specifications, I will say, 5th Gen iPod Nano is the winner! You get to watch videos & record videos too!

However, if you are looking at the size then maybe 6th Gen iPod Nano wins, but I still have my doubts since it only has a 1.5 inch screen , which is pretty small for a touch-screen device.

Of course, I'll still choose the 6th Gen iPod Nano if i'm using it in a gym, the "clip-able" feature is a good to have when exercising. But if you are not an exercising kind of person, then I would say "GO for 5th Gen iPod Nano!"

Canon Ixus 1000 HS

Canon Ixus 1000 HS in 3 different Colours

Canon Ixus 1000 HS is the World's Slimmest 10x Zoom with Full HD Movie Recording Camera.
This is probably a good camera to get if you want the big zoom minus carrying a bulky camera.
A good camera for travelling due to the big zoom. A big headache when taking pictures when travelling is always the zoom. It's always nice to have a big zoom camera to get those shots of buildings & landmarks that are far away (trust me, I've been there & done that).

I think what is nice is the fact that it has Full HD video recording as well. So you can playback all the movies recorded on your HD TV. :)

10.0 Mega Pixels so you can easily print up to poster size of your photo. You might think that 10.0 MP is low, since you can easily find 14 MP cameras. But do we really need 14MP? Actual fact: NO! Misconception: Higher the Mega Pixels, Clearer the Photos. Absolutely, WRONG. Higher Mega Pixels just means that you can print bigger sizes of the pictures without being pixelated. But comparing a 5MP camera, 10MP camera and 18MP camera when you are printing only 4R = No visible differences in clarity. All looks the same.

However, I was quite disappointed to learn that it has no wide angle, which is very common in cameras now. Nonetheless, it's a good camera to buy considering it's size and zoom :)

I would think that other competitors to this camera would be the Panasonic TZ10, which is a 12MP, 12x Zoom camera with GPS.
